So, if you are following this blog, you will notice that
there is no Week 5 Reflections blog. I had to take a breather. This week, I learned
the term “technostress” and now know how to describe the overwhelm I sometimes
feel. But, now I am back at it.
Every week, it is interesting to see the abundance
of tools available on the market. And, this week I learned about two tools that
I can use for my part-time hobbies. I enjoy reading and writing creative
stories and have always wanted to join GoodReads. So, this week, I signed up
for a GoodReads account and found it was pretty easy to navigate. Why did I
wait so long to join… I don’t have a good answer. The more I participate in
this course, the less resistance I feel to setting up accounts and commenting
online. I also set up an account with TinyLetter, which allows users to send
emails/newsletters to their own community. I think this would be a great
feature to add to my freelance website.
I am half way through the course, and social media is still
an overwhelming place; but I am learning how to digest it in small chunks. I am
finding the best approach for me is to stick to one or two social media
platforms: LinkedIn and Instagram work best for me. I decided this week to
start using Trello to curate a list of tools that could work for different
types of projects. I use Trello for my work and personal To Do list; so that’s
why I’m veering in that direction. I haven’t tried Diigo yet, but I hope to investigate
this week and make a decision about which tool to use. Once I do, I’ll share some
of my thoughts about the difference with these tools and if I decide to use one
over the other or both.
Until next time..
I signed up for GoodReads a few years ago in search of a new mystery series to fall in love with. However, I have only used it for personal use. I think it would be interesting to start a GoodReads account for professional development. I took a leadership course a couple of years ago which included several assigned readings. I think that it would be helpful to my peers to share which leadership and volunteer administration books I enjoyed and recommend.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great idea, Heather. I always have a long list of business books and never feel like I have enough time to read them. I see GoodReads as a great way to filter which ones would be valuable to read given our limited time.
